"Word came through yesterday that Mr James Thomas had died that mornin g at his home at Chatswood. Mr Thomas was a native of Pembrokeshire, W ales, and was 86 years of age. He came to Australia with his parents w hen quite a boy, and the family arrived on Monaro shortly after, in th e days when bullock drays were the main mode of conveyance. In later y ears Mr Thomas purchased the "Mona" property, near Bombala, and "Moore Springs" near Bibbenluke, and on the latter property he carried on gr azing pursuits until he was compelled b y failing health to retire. He lived in Bombala for some time before moving to Chatswood. His death at the great age of 86 years draws the curtain on deeds well done. A w idow, two daughters and five sons mourn their loss. Mrs Cooks of this town is a sister, and Mr J M Thomas of Bibbenluke a brother.

Mr John H Thomas, aged 75, died at the home of his son, Mr lin Thomas, at Bibbenluke, on Tuesday Morning. Death was due to heart failure. Th e late Mr Thomas was one of the pioneers of the district, having come here with his parents when a boy, and in the days when there was very little settlement on the Manaro. Most of his days were spent at Creewa h and Bibbenluke. He married Miss Bennett, daughter of the late Mr Joh n Bennett, but his wife predeceased him by a few years. Nine sons and one daughter are still living, and of these, Lin and Mrs Arthur Michie live at Bibbenluke, and the others are in different parts of the stat e. Captain Bruce Thomas, who has been at the war for some years, was e xpected back this week; and his father was hoping to see him before he died. Lines Sang at Rosemarket Chapel Pembrokeshire South Wales on the departure of Nehemiah Thomas and C Davis and family for Australia(1841)
Oh may the God of Grace
Protect this parting band
Who leave their native shore
To face a distant land
Oh may they through shore and sea
Have Israel's God to be their stay
Its hard to say depart
From friends we love so well
The thought affects the heart
Far more than words can tell
But we must say farewell dear heart
Until we meet on Cainanns Coast
Its true Australia is a place
Where wealth abounds
But not so rich as this
Where the sweet Gospel rounds
And offers riches to the poor
By constant knocking at the door
Be faithful to the end
And Jesus cause defend
In spite of hellish foes
And he'll profess you all to be
His children through Eternity
